Bob Prescott, a former Kernersville alderman, said Thursday that he is running for one of three District B nominations for seats on the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners.
Prescott served two stints on the Kernersville Board of Aldermen, from 1991 to 1994 and from 2007 to 2011. He was narrowly defeated in the 2011 election, losing his seat by 51 votes.
Keeping young people in the area is one of Prescott's focuses. He said his own grown children have moved to Raleigh and that a lot of young people are going to Charlotte for jobs.
"Charlotte and Raleigh have taken all our youth," Prescott said. "We have to do something to get this younger generation employed so they can stay here and develop our county. I want to meet with everybody in the county, Wake Forest University, the banks, and figure out what we can do to keep the youth here."
Prescott enters a crowded field. The incumbents on the board are Dave Plyler, Gloria Whisenhunt and Richard Linville; GOP challengers include Mark Baker of Tobaccoville and John Bost of Clemmons. No Democrat has announced for the race so far.
