The board of trustees at Wake Forest University approved the construction of two new residence halls on the north side of campus at its meeting last week.
Construction will begin in late February.
The residence halls, which will be a combined 150,000 square feet, will provide housing for 480 upperclassmen. They will be built on 10 acres between a large parking lot off Wake Forest Road and Polo Residence Hall.
Under a policy that began with this year's freshman class, students are required to live on campus for three years, prompting the need for more on-campus housing.
The two buildings, scheduled for completion in August of 2013, will be designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Design) certification — silver level standards.
University officials are also developing plans for a dining facility adjacent to the residence halls.
