Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school board member and congressional candidate Elisabeth Motsinger was in a car accident Tuesday night.
Motsinger said her car was totaled, but she was not seriously injured.
"A little sore and a little shaken up, but otherwise fine," she said.
Motsinger said a "a giant truck" merged into her lane and struck her car on Business 40 in the construction zone around the U.S. 52 interchange. A Forsyth County sheriff's deputy happened to witness the accident and said the truck driver was at fault, Motsinger said.
As the accident occurred, Motsinger said she thought she might die. That was followed by, "I don't want this to derail my campaign."
Motsinger, a Democrat, is running in the 5th Congressional District. She is the only announced Democrat in the race and plans to challenge U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-5th, in the November general elections.
Motsinger said she was in campaign mode right after the accident, telling medical personnel and others, "by the way I'm running for Congress."
