Blood clot risk low on flights, specialists say
Good news for budget-minded travelers: There's no proof that flying economy-class increases your chances of blood clots, according to new guidelines from medical specialists. The real risk is not getting up and moving during long flights, whether flying coach or first-class.
Still, the risk for most people is extremely low and not something to be alarmed about, said Gordon Guyatt, chairman of an American College of Chest Physicians' committee that wrote the guidelines. The guidelines were released online today in the group's journal, Chest.
Tucson suspect will stay at federal facility
A federal judge ruled Monday that the suspect in the Tucson shooting rampage that wounded then-U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will spend four more months at a federal prison facility where officials are forcibly medicating him.
U.S. District Court Judge Larry Burns noted that Jared Lee Loughner has made marked improvement at the facility in Springfield, Mo. Mental health experts have determined that Loughner, 23, suffers from schizophrenia and are trying to make him fit to stand trial.
