HUNTERSVILLE

A fire Tuesday in the machine shop at Joe Gibbs Racing in Huntersville required a handful of employees to seek treatment related to smoke inhalation, The Charlotte Observer reported.

A team spokesman said a piece of equipment in the machine shop caught fire around 3:30 p.m. but was quickly contained and extinguished.

Employees were able to return to work within an hour, the spokesman said.

JGR also had a fire in its engine shop almost one year ago, which resulted in water and smoke damage but no injuries.

That fire began when employees were using one of the team's two dynamometers, machines used to gauge engine performance and durability.

JGR fields NASCAR Sprint Cup teams for drivers Kyle Busch, Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin.
