A Winston-Salem State University student died Friday evening after being found unconscious in her dorm room, university officials said.

Deena Wilson, 21, a junior exercise-science major from Fayetteville, was found unconscious about 5:30 p.m. by her roommate, said Nancy Young, the university's director of public relations.

Attempts to revive Wilson were unsuccessful. She was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m.

Young said there were no indications of foul play or that drugs or alcohol played a role in Wilson's death.

She added that the cause of death would not be known until an autopsy is completed.

Grief counselors will be available for students, school officials said.
