The operations manager of Caterpillar Inc.'s axle-manufacturing plant in Winston-Salem will offer an update on the $426 million plant during a Nov. 10 presentation.
Rusty Davis will speak at the Winston-Salem Chamber Tech Council event at 8:30 a.m. in the Rhodes Center for the Arts.
"As Caterpillar's advanced manufacturing facility gets closer to opening, this will be an excellent opportunity for our community to hear directly from Mr. Davis about the innovative products that will be made here in Winston-Salem," said Gayle Anderson, the chamber's president and chief executive.
"We are fortunate to have Caterpillar in our community and grateful he is eager to share their story at the technology and innovation series."
Caterpillar's 850,000-square-foot plant will increase production capacity for the company's next generation of large-scale mining trucks. The company has committed to having 392 full-time and 118 contract workers at full production.
"We're still in the very early stages of hiring and have less than 30 employees," Caterpillar spokeswoman Bridget Young said in September.
"We expect the first axle will be complete in early November. There will be some positions available in November, but the majority of the hiring will begin in the first and second quarters of 2012."
Young referred job applicants to a company website, JoinTeamCaterpillar.com, for more information.
Registration is required for Davis' speech, which can be made at www.winstonsalem.com. The event is free and open to the public.
