BOOMER – Two Wilkes County teenagers died Tuesday night in a single-car wreck about 7 miles southwest of Wilkesboro on N.C. 18, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Robert Hardin Adams, 18, of 4158 Statesville Road, North Wilkesboro, and passenger Dakota Scott Houdey Shell, 15, of 119 B& R Drive, Boomer, were killed, said Trooper R.D. Holbrook.

The 1998 Ford car driven by Adams was traveling south on N.C. 18 near Clear View Road when it ran off the right side of N.C. 18, according to the trooper's report. He said Adams lost control, and the car hit several trees and overturned. The accident happened at 9 p.m.

The car was traveling an estimated 65 mph, and left skid marks of about 207 feet, Holbrook said. The speed limit is 55 mph.

Both teenagers were wearing shoulder and lap belts. The teens were members of the Wilkes Central High School band and had worked in the concession stand at the soccer game before the crash.
