The Winston-Salem State University Foundation has elected new officers and two new directors.
The new officers for 2011-2012 are James Martin, president of Arbor Investment Advisors, chairman; Roger Vaughn, retired former president of Aon Consulting US, vice chairman; Martha Logemann, owner of Logemann & Co., PA, treasurer; and Tim Grant, director of parks and recreation for the city of Winston-Salem and a WSSU graduate, secretary.
New board members elected to serve three-year terms are Cheryl E.H. Locke, vice president of human resources at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center; and Cynthia A. Williams, BB&T Corp. chief corporate communications officer.
Wake Forest's search for provost continues
Wake Forest University is continuing its hunt for a new provost to replace Jill Tiefenthaler, who left at the end of June to become president of Colorado College.
Mark Welker, a professor of chemistry, is serving in the interim.
President Nathan Hatch has not set a deadline to fill the position.
A committee of faculty and staff is assisting in the search. The school has also hired a consultant from Presidio Executive Search.
The provost is the school's top academic officer and oversees the school's $209 million academic budget.
College graduates' salaries increase
The average starting salary for 2011 college graduates rose 4.8 percent, according to a new report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
The organization's summer salary report showed the overall average at $51,018, up from $48,661 this time last year.
The winter and spring reports also showed increases in the overall average offer. The highest average offer was made to petroleum engineers, who were offered an average of nearly $81,000.
