•Karen Potvin Klein, a medical editor in Winston-Salem, has been named the 2010-11 administrator of special projects for the American Medical Writers Association. Klein has worked at Wake Forest University Health Sciences for about 20 years. She is an associate director in the Office of Research, where she edits grant applications and manuscripts for faculty members and teaches workshops on grant and manuscript writing.
•The rehabilitation of the historic Alumni House at UNC Greensboro has earned a 2010 Preservation Award from Preservation Greensboro Inc. David E. Gall, Architect P.A. of Winston-Salem, was the architect, and One Design Center of Greensboro was the interior designer.
•Beverly Shore Dinkins, a certified public accountant, has joined the staff of Ferree & Associates, CPAs, PLLC in Winston-Salem. Before joining Ferree & Associates, Dinkins was a partner at B & D Associates LLC from 1994 to 1996. In 1996, she formed Beverly A. Shore, CPA and was the owner of Beverly A. •Allstate Insurance Co. recently appointed Bob Holden to field vice president for the company's Southeast Region, which includes Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. In this role, Holden will be responsible for all strategy, operations and distribution in the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Holden was with Allstate's New York Region, where he had been the field vice president since August 2008.
•The Truckload Carriers Association and CarriersEdge said that Best Cartage in Kernersville is one of 20 winners of the 2011 "Best Fleets to Drive For," a survey and contest that identifies North American for-hire trucking companies that provide the best workplace experiences for their drivers.
•Forsyth Medical Center recently received national recertification for its Knee Replacement Program from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. National certification is awarded only to health care facilities that demonstrate excellence in joint-replacement services for knees by meeting rigorous national standards and performance measurements established by the Joint Commission.
•Thomas H. Hughes/Architecture P.C. has been retained by Edens and Avant Commercial Real Estate to design and produce construction documents for the renovation of the Florence Mall in Florence, S.C., for the facade of the existing 56,245-square-foot Stein Mart. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer.
