Police are investigating the reported theft of four guns worth $1,700 from a pickup truck owned by backup linebacker Kion Wilson of the Carolina Panthers.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a report that Wilson reported robbers broke into his Ford F250. Wilson said they stole an FN 57 handgun, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a Glock 23 and a Smith and Wesson Body Guard 380.
Wilson said he discovered the break-in while driving after stopping at a store parking lot near Northlake Mall on Monday.
Police said the door lock on the truck also was damaged.
Police were checking surveillance cameras but have no suspects, said police Sgt. Brian Foley. He wouldn't say if the firearms are registered to Wilson, citing the privacy of the investigation.
However, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said the team has checked and the guns are correctly registered to Wilson to travel.
GIANTS: New York, coming off one of its best defensive efforts, could be getting another piece back for its NFC East showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.
Osi Umenyiora, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end, practiced on a limited basis Wednesday after being sidelined for the entire month with a high-ankle sprain and continuing problems with his knee.
Umenyiora hurt the ankle — the team has not said which one — in a loss in New Orleans on Nov. 28. He has missed the past four games, but he looked good running with the defensive linemen in practice.
DOLPHINS: Linebacker Jason Taylor said he'll retire after this season, his 15th in the NFL and his 13th with the Miami Dolphins.
Taylor, who made the announcement after practice Wednesday, leads all active players with 1391/2 sacks, which ranks sixth all-time. He has six fumble returns for touchdowns, an NFL record.
He'll conclude his career Sunday against the New York Jets. It'll be his 204th game with the Dolphins, which ranks second to Dan Marino's 242.
BENGALS: Cincinnati announced it has sold out its final regular-season game against the Baltimore Ravens, only the second time the Bengals have filled Paul Brown Stadium this season. The other time was when Pittsburgh brought thousands of fans.
Getting a full stadium was key for the Bengals (9-6), who secured only their third winning record in 21 years by beating Arizona last week. A win over the Ravens (11-4) on Sunday would secure the final AFC wild card berth.
COLTS: Dan Orlovsky could be playing this week on short rest.
Orlovsky, Indianapolis' quarterback, missed Wednesday's practice after his wife, Tiffany, had triplets.
Coach Jim Caldwell said Orlovsky was expected back in town Wednesday night and should practice today.
Caldwell would only say Orlovsky was absent for "personal reasons."
But Curtis Painter, who took the first-team snaps Wednesday, said Orlovsky's wife gave birth to three boys.
