Caring staff
Concerning the recent article in the Journal about Springwood Care Center of Forsyth ("Nursing home hit with abuse allegation," March 31), my father (who is 84) is now a patient there. He has been there several times and doesn't want to go anywhere else. The staff is caring and efficient. Anyone who wants to complain and accuse this facility should try to keep their loved ones at home and get some first-hand experience.

Consumers won't see savings
The "big box" retailers have done a great job of selling Congress and consumer groups that reduced debit-card processing fees will result in huge savings for consumers ("Unfair legislation would hurt credit-union members," April 7). Retailers insist they will pass on to consumers what they gain by the reduced interchange rate they pay. I don't really think a direct pass-through of savings to consumers will happen.
If they are really serious, they can save consumers money now. Simply set up checkouts with a "cash or check only" sign with the percentage of discount. Then the consumer can decide. Consumer preference should drive the market, not government. So what are retailers waiting for? Let me choose to save money now.

Evangelical sermons on the op-ed page? On the same page as serious commentators like George Will and Thomas Friedman? Really?

Support
It is my intention to support Mitt Romney for president of the United States in 2012. I could be persuaded to support Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey for vice president if he would push to have Bon Jovi banned from the airwaves.
