Wake Forest University basketball player Tony Woods was charged on Labor Day with assaulting Courtney Lorel Barbour, with whom he shares an apartment, according to court records.
Police said Woods, 20, kicked Barbour and pushed her down, causing a spine fracture. They lived at 222 Bethabara Hills Court, authorities said.
Woods was charged with three misdemeanors: assault inflicting serious injury, assault on a female and assault inflicting injury in the presence of a child.
Woods is a junior and started nine games last season, averaging 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds. He is a scholarship player from Rome, Ga.
