High Point Wesleyan's Davis Womble, who is ranked among the top junior golfers in the state, has committed to play golf at Wake Forest.
Womble, a junior, will join Grayson Murray of Raleigh in Wake Forest's freshman class in 2012. Womble is No. 4 in the Carolinas Golf Association's junior rankings, and Murray is No. 5.
Womble's mother, Carol, said that her son had several other schools under consideration, including Virginia, Auburn, N.C. State and North Carolina.
"Since he was a little he always wanted to go to Wake Forest," Carol Womble said. "We did go visit the other schools, but Davis just really liked how Coach (Jerry) Haas is so involved with the players and I think that was the deciding factor."
Womble has won several tournaments including the Donald Ross Junior in December. He also won the Carolinas Junior and qualified for the U.S. Junior, where he reached the round of 32.
