Space Savers, a Winston-Salem housewares company that closed its doors in June, has been bought by an Internet retailer, Clickstop Inc.
Clickstop, based in Urbana, Iowa, said yesterday that the purchase was completed last Friday. It is the company's fourth purchase of a consumer brand this year.
Officials plan to relaunch www.SpaceSavers.com within four to eight weeks and expand the products on the website after the Christmas holiday season.
The company could not be reached for immediate comment about whether it had any plans for local Space Savers operations. Space Savers' corporate headquarters was in the Towers shopping center, and it had a warehouse on West Point Boulevard.
Space Savers, which specialized in home-storage and organization products, closed its Winston-Salem store in June after 20 years in business. Abner Wright, its president and chief executive, said at that time that its business model could not compete effectively with Internet retailing.
The company also closed two stores in Charlotte and one in Cary and Wilmington.
"Space Savers fills a need for homeowners and offices, offering useful, functional products at great value to the consumer," Shawn Linderbaum, the co-owner of Clickstop, said in a statement.
"We're going to integrate Space Savers into our e-commerce platform and back-end operations."
