Man who hit power line dies
A Mount Airy man who was shocked while trimming trees in Pilot Mountain last month has died from his injuries, John Shelton, the Surry County EMS director, said yesterday.
Alan D. Daley, 28, was trimming trees in a bucket truck on State Street on Aug. 28 when he came into contact with a primary electrical line.
Daley went into cardiac arrest but was revived at the scene. He was taken to Northern Hospital of Surry County before being moved to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he died this week.

Girl, 11, who was hit by car Tuesday dies
LEXINGTON -- A Lexington girl died after being struck by a car Tuesday.
The accident happened about five miles northwest of Lexington at the entrance to Whispering Pines Mobile Home Park.

Valdese couple held in break-ins across area
Yadkinville police say they believe that they have found the people responsible for hundreds of break-ins in central and northwestern North Carolina over the past few years.
Mitchell Franklin Damron, 33, and Ryleigh Elizabeth Waldrop, 18, both of Valdese, have each been charged with three counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny and one count of attempted breaking and entering, said Sgt. Dawn Pardue of the Yadkinville Police Department.
Security software on a stolen laptop led police to their house. The two lived together.
Police Chief Tim Parks said investigators believe that the two are responsible for hundreds of break-ins at insurance companies and lawyer and doctor offices from Asheville to Greensboro. -- Laura Graff
New charges are filed against driver in crash
GREENSBORO -- ProsĀecutors brought new charges this week against a Winston-Salem woman accused of a DWI-related crash Feb. 13 in Browns Summit that killed three passengers, charging her with three counts of second-degree murder.
A Guilford County grand jury indicted Amanda Christine Sperduti, 21, on those charges and others Tuesday.
Sperduti is accused of killing Scott Bedwell, 23; Sascha Hoffman, 18; and Taylor McCaskill, 18, who were passengers.
Sperduti's blood alcohol level registered a 0.20, according to court records.
She is accused of driving 90 mph on Fairgrove Church Road where the speed limit is 45 mph.
