A 63-year-old woman was sentenced to up to a year in prison this week after pleading guilty to charges that she sold drugs out of her apartment and had two guns, one of which was found in a safe under her bed.
Brenda Foster Lampkins of 2821 Piedmont Circle pleaded guilty Wednesday in Forsyth Superior Court to possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a gun with an altered serial number.
In March, Winston-Salem police started getting reports about Lampkins selling drugs from her apartment and had a confidential informant buy drugs from her. On April 9, police searched her home and found 67 individual bags containing 16.4 grams of cocaine. They also found a .38-caliber revolver in a shoebox and .25-caliber pistol in a safe under Lampkins bed along with cash and drugs, Assistant District Attorney Elisabeth Dresel said yesterday.
Lampkins waived her rights and immediately gave a statement to police, Dresel said. Lampkins told police that she had been selling marijuana and cocaine out of her apartment for the past five years as a way to support her family, Dresel said.
Lampkins told police she was getting $529 a month from Social Security payments and that she got $100 to $200 a day from selling drugs, Dresel said.
Lampkins told police that every three weeks, she would buy an eighth of an ounce of cocaine, known as an 8-ball, and repackage it in $10 amounts, Dresel said.
Then she sold the cocaine to other drug dealers to sell on the streets, Dresel said.
Lampkins told police that she was simply holding the guns for other people. Lampkins was convicted in 1991 of felony possession of cocaine, Dresel said.
Cecil Summers, her attorney, could not be reached for comment.
