Mark Fulk, the president of Meridian Realty Group in Winston-Salem, is vacationing with his family at Sunset Beach, where he owns a condo unit.
Because Sunset Beach is close to the South Carolina border, he's not worried about Hurricane Earl.
"I don't think it's going to impact us," Fulk said.
At 4 p.m. yesterday, the sun was out as Fulk looked out at the ocean.
"It looks like the waves and the surf are picking up a little bit," he said. "Maybe, it's going to get a little rougher as time goes on."
He said he and his wife had been driving around Sunset Beach doing some grocery shopping and noticed that the stores were well-stocked.
"There is more panic when there's a snowstorm coming than there was in terms of grocery buying," Fulk said. "It looks like a normal weekday."
But he noticed that there were fewer people at the beach than in past Labor Day weekends.
