HIGH POINT -- Orders for home furnishings increased for the eighth consecutive month in June.
Smith Leonard PLLC, a financial-services company based in High Point, said yesterday that its survey found a combined $1.7 billion in orders in June, up 9 percent from $1.56 billion in June 2009. Sales, however, were down 2 percent from $1.72 billion in May.
By comparison, furniture sales at retail were unchanged at $7.46 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
About 64 percent of the survey participants reported an increase in sales during June, compared with 60 percent in May and 73 percent in April.
