Coach Butch Davis said Wednesday morning that North Carolina still is not in position to determine who will be able to play in Saturday's opening game against LSU in Atlanta.
Davis, speaking on the ACC's weekly football coaches teleconference, said that UNC's depth chart remains still fluid and that no decisions on who will play are expected any time soon.
"I wish I could answer that question," Davis said. "Obviously it kind of falls into this entire review thing. I think we're all in the holding mode as far as that's concerned. Right now we're just preparing for the game."
UNC announced Wednesday, in a release from its sports-information office, that all players will be off limits for media interviews the rest of the week. Kevin Best, the sports information director for football, said in the release that the decision will give the team the best conditions to prepare for the game.
Davis said that his staff is preparing for many contingencies for who will or won't play Saturday.
"That's pretty accurate," he said. "We're trying to prepare for all scenarios."
The uncertainty is the result of two investigations into the program. The NCAA is looking into possible contact with agents by at least two players, and UNC is looking into possible academic impropriety involving a former tutor and several players.
