GREENSBORO
Officials at a North Carolina university say a track team tryout that led to the death of a student violated both NCAA and university policies.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that school officials say 20-year-old Jospin Milandu of Knightdale was participating in a voluntary, unscheduled track tryout for North Carolina A&T State University when he died Aug. 16.

Milandu collapsed on the track and was taken to Moses Cone Hospital. The university says doctors determined he died from complications of an elevated heart rate.

The school said Tuesday that university policies were violated because the tryout didn't appear on the school's schedule of athletic events. Officials say one NCAA policy also was violated. The school did not explain the violation.
