BOONE
A full-scale emergency drill will be held from about 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Appalachian State University.
Law enforcement officers participating in the drill will not be carrying loaded weapons and participants and observers will wear colored vests and identification badges.
Traffic along Stadium Drive may be limited at times during the drill, and one or more buildings may be involved. Area residents and drivers will likely see law enforcement and emergency response vehicles along Rivers Street and Stadium Drive.
The drill will involve more than 100 participants, including local and state law enforcement officers from six agencies and members of the Watauga Emergency Medical Services and the Boone Fire Department.
The university's emergency website - www.emergency.appstate.edu - will have information about the drill.
The drill is designed to test response and communication during an emergency.
Law enforcement officers participating in the drill will not be carrying loaded weapons and participants and observers will wear colored vests and identification badges.
Simulated explosions might also be part of the drill.
This is the second full-scale emergency drill at Appalachian. The first, in 2009, simulated a shooter/hostage situation.
