Ex-teacher sentenced to 3 months in jail
LEXINGTON -- A former teacher at Thomasville High School will spend three months in jail after pleading guilty last week to charges that he had an inappropriate relationship with a female student.
Edward Heath Williamson, 33, pleaded guilty on May 3 in Davidson Superior Court to two counts of sexual offense with a student. Judge Mark Klass sentenced Williamson to 13 to 16 months in prison.
Klass suspended all but three months and ordered Williamson to serve 36 months of supervised probation.
He also must register as a sex offender for 30 years and must not have any contact with any children other than his own.
The student was over the age of 16. Williamson was an instructional technological facilitator, a job that focused on helping teachers and students incorporate technology in the classroom. He had been at Thomasville High for about three years and also had been the quarterbacks coach for the high school's football team.
After he was arrested in January, Williamson was suspended with pay. Once school officials completed an investigation, Williamson was fired, Associate Superintendent James Carmichael said.
