North Wilkesboro man wins $500,000 in N.C. Education Lottery

A Wilkes County man was shocked to find he was a winner of a $500,000 prize when he scratched off his $500,000 Jackpot card on April 27, N.C. lottery officials said today.
Christopher Crouse, of North Wilkesboro, said he paid $10 on a whim for the instant game at Glade Valley Country Store in Glade Valley. He netted $340,003 after taxes. He said he would use some of the money to pay off bills.
The N.C. Education Lottery has paid out more than $7.6 million in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since April 29. "Carolina Pick 3" players have won more than $1.3 million. "Carolina Pick 4" players have won $333,000, including 14 tickets that won the top prize of $5,000. "Carolina Cash 5" players have won more than $683,000.
