Alleghany County voters chose three Democrats for the Board of Commissioners in Tuesday's primary, narrowing the field from six candidates.

In complete but unofficial results, the top vote getters were Tom Smith, with 750 votes; Larry Cox, 627; and incumbent Milly B. Richardson, 412. Not moving on were incumbent Randy Miller, with 404 votes; Bill Brooks, 335; and Wayne C. Sparks, 287.

The top three Democrats will move on to the November election to face Republicans John Goudreau and Kathy A. Murphy. The Republicans did not have a primary.
