Senate rejects conservative ban on earmarks for states

»  Comments | Post a Comment

WASHINGTON -- The Senate killed a move by conservative Republicans to temporarily ban earmarking taxpayer dollars for back-home projects for their states. Fifteen Republicans joined most Democrats to reject the moratorium by a 68-29 vote.

In the House, Republicans imposed an earmark ban on party members last week to demonstrate they are the party of reform. Democrats controlling the House declared that earmarks can no longer go to for-profit companies.
