A retired sheriff's deputy was charged yesterday with first-degree sex offense with a child and felony indecent liberties with a child, court records show.
James M. Manuel, 71, of 2415 Sedalia Drive in Clemmons was accused of having sex with a boy and taking indecent liberties with him from June 12, 2009, to March 12, 2010, an arrest warrant says. A court record indicated that Manuel is a retired sheriff's deputy, but it didn't say what county Manuel worked in.
Manuel was being held in the Forsyth County Jail with bond set at $86,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 23.
Domestic violence incident leads to attempted murder charge
YADKINVILLE -- Police arrested a Yadkinville man yesterday on charges of attempted murder and felony assault, authorities said.
Stephen Gray Wall Jr., 20, of 744 Beech St. is accused of trying to kill Heather Nicole Shelton and assaulting her by strangling and hitting her, an arrest warrant says.
The charges stem from a domestic violence incident at Wall's home at 5:30 a.m. yesterday, Yadkinville police said in a news release.
Shelton has bruises, bleeding and swelling on her face, head and neck, the warrant said.
Greensboro police arrested Wall about 2:15 p.m. at his job in Greensboro, Yadkinville police said.
More than 1,200 lose power when tree falls in western part of town
A large tree fell yesterday in western Winston-Salem, knocking out power to more than 1,200 Duke Energy customers, authorities said.
Winston-Salem police closed the 3700 block of Milhaven Road between Strawberry and Mayberry lanes shortly after 7:30 p.m. while workers cleared away the debris, police said in a news release. The road had been reopened by 9:25 p.m.
