Woman wounded while trying to protect dog

A Winston-Salem woman was shot in the hand while making a failed attempt to save her dog Tuesday, police said.

Two men entered the woman's home in the 4500 block of Circle Drive off Old Walkertown Road about 3 p.m. The men threatened the 45-year-old woman with a gun, and shot and killed her dog when it started barking. The woman was shot while trying to stop the suspects from shooting her dog, police said.

After the shooting, the two men fled the home.

The woman was treated by EMS at the scene.

Both men were described as black males between 20 and 30 years old. One was described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a medium build, wearing a red toboggan and baggy jeans.

The other suspect was described as 6 feet tall, with a medium build, wearing a black toboggan and baggy jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 727-7327.
