The service project doubled as an experiential learning opportunity in needs assessment that students could not get in the classroom.
The project, coordinated by Chad Betters and Shawn Ricks, provided students an opportunity to communicate with the veterans about their needs and concerns. Students graduating from the rehabilitation programs seek employment geared towards working with individuals with disabilities, including the veteran population.
The students involved included Velma White, Denver Behnke, Michelle House, Gary Mahatha, Shadai Munoz, Saundra Hayes, Jamaine Mack, Arielle Allen, Kentrell Pittman, Tierra Caldwell, Ramsey Rogers and Thomas Page.
This was the third year in a row in which students from Winston-Salem State University have visited the veterans at the outpatient clinic, and both programs intend to maintain the project for years to come.
