STATESVILLE
Two women were kidnapped at gunpoint from a church yesterday and robbed.
Police Chief Tom Anderson said that a man walked into Broad Street United Methodist Church on West Broad Street and pulled a gun on a secretary. He took her to another office where a second woman was working. The robber forced both women to the parking lot, where he stole one woman's car, Anderson said.
The man put one woman into the trunk, Anderson said. The other was made to get into the passenger seat. He drove around and used their ATM cards. He then released the women, Anderson said. Police later found the car, which had been set on fire.
