RALEIGH
A North Carolina woman has pleaded guilty to filing a false report that her son was missing.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that 43-year-old Rosnah Hassan Thomason of Johnston County pleaded guilty Monday to a federal charge of making false statements to police. Officials had issued an Amber Alert after she reported him missing.

Prosecutors say Thomason was accused of telling officers that 3-year-old Roji Davenport disappeared while she loaded produce in her car at a flea market in Smithfield in 2008.

Thomason faces up to five years in prison when she's sentenced.

Thomason is not the child's mother. At the time she said he was missing, he was flying to Japan with his father, who is her brother.

It's unclear why she reported the boy missing.
