MOUNT OLIVE -- A North Carolina college is clearing the way to earn a college degree in three years instead of four, saving a year of costs worth $22,000.
Mount Olive College is the first in the state offering a coordinated plan to get motivated students through college faster. The accelerated program includes extra advising and priority in scheduling courses in the right order.
College president Philip Kerstetter thinks the accelerated plan will appeal to only about 5 percent of his students who know exactly what they want from the first day of college. The private college is based in Wayne County and has six satellite campuses from Durham to Wilmington.
