RALEIGH

A retired fire department employee is North Carolina's latest multimillionaire.

Frank Griffin of Asheville came forward Monday to claim his Powerball jackpot, which he plans to take in a single, lump sum that will total about $47 million after taxes.

The 66-year-old Griffin owns a janatorial services company and used to be a driver and engineer for the Asheville Fire Department. He says he wants to take care of his three children and granchildren and take his wife on a trip to Hawaii.

Griffin says he also is planning to play more golf.

The Saturday jackpot was worth a $141 million annuity or almost $70 million in cash before taxes.
