The Lexington Police Department and the Davidson County Sheriff's Office are investigating a possible homicide after a woman's body was found during Friday's snow storm, the sheriff's office said in a news release today.
The sheriff's office received a report at 10:33 p.m. Friday that a body was lying on Badin Lake Road in southern Davidson County, about 700 feet from the Montgomery County line.
At 3 a.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies learned that the body fit the description of a woman reported missing in Lexington on Friday. The woman reported missing was Linda Brooks Hammonds, 56, of 195 Young Drive, Lexington. Her daughter had reported her missing, the sheriff's office said.
The death is being investigated as a possible homicide, and the State Bureau of Investigation has been brought in to assist, the sheriff's office said. The body was sent to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
