SENIOR DRIVERS: Carfit, a collaborative effort between the American Society on Aging, AARP, the American Occupational Therapy Association and American Automobile Association, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Drive. It is designed to provide a thorough assessment to determine how well the mature driver and their vehicle work together. A trained professional will work with each driver to assist with the completion of a 12 point checklist, (driver and vehicle), with each assessment lasting approximately 20 minutes. Check points will include the steering wheel; airbag; seating; gas pedal; brake pedal; mirrors and other assessments. Upon completion of the assessment, the driver will be given recommendations for adjustments and adaptations, and a list of community resources if needed, to make the necessary adjustments and put the driver at ease.

LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA FUNDRAIER: A Bicycle Poker Ride will be held April 24 beginning and ending at Clemmons Bicycle located at 2700 Lewisville-Clemmons Road. Participants will stop at checkpoints along the bike routes to collect a card, with those having the best hands at the end of their bike ride winning prizes. SENIOR GAMES: The Thomasville/Davidson County/Lexington Senior Games, for men and women aged 55 and older, will be held from April 26 to May 7, in Lexington and Thomasville. The competition will include such events as basketball shoot, billiards, bridge, bowling; field events, including softball/football throws, long jumps, and discus; golf, horseshoes, race walking, swimming, tennis, and track running events. The creative/literary arts include categories such essay, short story, life experiences, poetry writing, photography, painting, sculpting, crocheting needlework to name a few. The performing arts categories are dance, vocal, comedy/drama, line dancing and instrumental. The cost to enter is $8.

Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from the Race will remain in the 10 counties the Komen NC Triad Affiliate serves: Alamance, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties. The remaining income supports the National Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, educational and scientific programs around the world.
