ASHEVILLE — Ten land trusts collaborating as the Blue Ridge Forever coalition hope to increase their ability to permanently protect western North Carolina's agricultural lands this year through a $25,000 grant from the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area.
The grant will be used to support public awareness efforts and research on innovative trends in farmland protection.
"Maintaining western North Carolina's base of productive agricultural land and the scenic integrity of our agricultural landscapes is a key goal of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area's ten-year management plan, and we believe that the Blue Ridge Forever land trust coalition is uniquely positioned to help accomplish that," said Angie Chandler, the executive director of the Heritage Area.
Blue Ridge Forever members are: Blue Ridge Rural Land Trust, Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, Conservation Trust for North Carolina, Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina, High Country Conservancy, Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, Land Trust for the Little Tennessee, National Committee for the New River, Parcolet Area Conservancy, and the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.
