A Davidson County man died after the car he was driving went off the road and crashed into the Tyro Fire Department station on N.C. 150, the N.C. Highway Patrol said this morning.
The crash occurred Sunday just after 7 p.m. on N.C. 150 about five miles west of Lexington. James David Dyson, 40, of Linwood, was traveling south when he crossed the center line and went off the left side of the road, striking a utility box before crashing into the garage of the station, the highway patrol said.
Sgt. Ben Stalvey said investigators are waiting for a report from the N.C. Medical Examiner's Office to see if Dyson had some kind of health condition that led to the crash.
No one else was injured. Dyson's car struck two fire trucks in the station, causing an estimated $30,000 in damage to the two trucks. The building also sustained about $10,000 in damage.
