Lexington man dies in crash

A Lexington man died Wednesday night when his car went off the right side of Old Salisbury Road and hit a tree, the highway patrol said.

Albert Ray Holmes Jr., 47, of 114 Burbank Drive, was alone in his car traveling south on Old Salisbury Road near Michael Road when his 1998 Volkswagen went off the road about 9:30 p.m.

Investigators believe Holmes was driving about 90 mph, which is twice the speed limit of 45 mph, when he lost control of the car.
