GREENSBORO - A Greensboro Coliseum spokesman says rapper Gucci Mane has backed out of a controversy-provoking performance at North Carolina A&T State University's annual homecoming concert because he's under house arrest.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported Friday that venue spokesman Andrew Brown said the rapper is under house arrest in Georgia for a probation violation.
Students objected to Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, because he celebrates his ties to the Bloods street gang on songs such as "Blood in Blood Out" and "Same Red Rag."
A&T removed its name and financial support from the annual concert after receiving complaints about hiring the rapper. The concert now is supported exclusively by a production company.
