Q. There is usually a free or low-cost rabies vaccination clinic held here in the fall, but I can't remember the details. Can you find out when and where it is and how much it costs, so that I can save a few dollars? -- A.S.

A. The rabies clinic, which is open to residents in Forsyth and surrounding counties, will be noon to 3 p.m. this Saturday at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds cattle barn. Go to Gate 9 on 27th Street. The cost is $5 a pet.

Pets must be at least 3 months old. Dogs must be leashed, and cats must be in carriers. Loaner carriers are available.

The Forsyth County Rabies Vaccination Committee sponsors rabies clinics each fall and spring. For more information, call 703-3110.

Other area organizations offer low-cost clinics this fall. Similar guidelines apply. If you want your pet to get the three-year dose, bring proof of previous vaccinations.

The Yadkin County Health Department and the Yadkin County Humane Society are sponsoring two rabies clinics.

Vaccinations will be given on Oct. 31 at Yadkin Veterinary Hospital on U.S. 601 North in Yadkinville, and on Nov. 14 at Grandview Animal Hospital on Old U.S. 421 in East Bend. Both clinics will be open from 11 a.m. until noon, and the cost is $7. Call 463-4990 for more information.

Walkertown Veterinary Hospital at 2707 Old Hollow Road in Walkertown offers a clinic from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. The cost for a one-year vaccine is $12.50. The cost for a three-year vaccine is $15. Call 595-3090 for more information.
