IN OTHER AREAS

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC has received $20,000 from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation. The food bank will use the gift to support its childhood hunger programs, Kids Cafes and the BackPack Program.

The Kids Cafes program addresses the growing problem of childhood hunger in urban communities by providing youth with an evening meal, tutoring and enrichment activities three nights a week throughout the year. The BackPack Program aims to address childhood hunger in rural communities by providing elementary-school children with backpacks full of nutritious, child-friendly foods to take home over the weekends during the school year.

Second Harvest Food Bank provides grants to operate the programs and collaborates with its partner agencies, faith communities, schools and other community groups to manage day-to-day operations of the programs.
