GREENSBORO — Two Surry County paramedics beat a three-time champion team from Stokes County to be named the top paramedic team in North Carolina.

Barry McMillian and Roger Horton of Surry County were named the winners at an awards banquet Tuesday following a statewide emergency medical conference in Greensboro last week.

McMillian and Horton beat the team of Fred Lawson and Scott Brown of Stokes County, who had won the competition in 2005, 2007 and 2008, in a timed and graded exercise using mock emergency scenarios.
