Girl shot in Mount Airy home

A teenage girl was shot Tuesday afternoon at a home on West Church Street in Mount Airy, The Mount Airy News reported.

Emergency radio dispatches indicated the girl was shot in the face about 4 p.m., the newspaper said. Police said she was in critical condition yesterday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Police had detained a man and were interviewing him last night, the newspaper said. Neither his name nor the girl's name has been released.

WXII reported that police said the girl was shot by a relative.
