Sex offense charges filed against former Davie teacher

A former middle-school teacher in Davie County has been charged with having sex with a female student.

Doug Ebersbach, a teacher at William Ellis Middle School, resigned Sunday and the criminal investigation started Tuesday. He has been charged with four counts of sexual exploitation with a minor, one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor and one count of breaking and entering.

Davie County Sheriff's officials said that Ebersbach has not been arrested yet and think he may have moved out of state in the last week.

Ebersbach had been with the Davie schools since March 2006. He taught at South Davie Middle School before being transferred to William Ellis this year. School officials said that the transfer was related to budget and staff reductions.

Before joining the Davie school system Ebersbach taught for the Wayne County school system in eastern North Carolina.
