A program on "Building Good Garden Soil" will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the education wing of the greenhouse at Reynolda Gardens. Phillip Gillespie of Thunder Horse Farms will discuss how attention to the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of garden soil improves plant health, boosts yield and sustains the garden.

Nursery to offer hints on care of poinsettias
Jim Mitchell of Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse will hold a free program on poinsettias and their care at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at the King Public Library, 101 Pilot View Drive.
This year, Mitchell's Nursery is growing 9,000 poinsettias in more than 70 varieties. It will hold its annual Poinsettia Open House from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 6.

5-week business course to focus on farmers
A five-week course on business planning for farmers and other entrepreneurs will begin Dec. 1, at the Forsyth County Cooperative Extension Office. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays.

Davidson center holding several workshops
Several events are coming up at the Davidson County Agricultural Center:
□ A workshop on making food gifts for the holidays will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Participants will receive recipes and make some gifts to take home. The cost is $20 to cover the cost of materials. Advance registration is required; call 242-2080.
□ A workshop on community-sponsored agriculture, in which local farmers sell their produce directly to consumers, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1. Free, but registration is required by Tuesday, Nov. 24. For more information, call 242-2085.
□ A jewelry-making class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 5. Make a necklace and matching earrings from organdy ribbon and beads. The cost is $10 for materials; advance registration required. For more information, call 242-2080.
