Judge issues injunction on Yadkin jail issue

YADKINVILLE - The chairman of the Yadkin County board of commissioners is awaiting an injunction to stop a committee's work on a proposed jail site.

Chad Wagoner said that he expects a Yadkin sheriff's deputy to serve the injunction around 6:30 p.m.

Superior Court Judge John O. Craig issued the injunction earlier today to stop the committee's work. The committee is looking at a less-expensive site plan for the proposed jail on Hoots Road.

Craig put the commissioners on notice Monday night that he would be sending them orders and subpoenas in coming weeks to compel them to explain why the county hasn't built a new jail.

Craig has scheduled a hearing for Jan. 8 in Yadkinville.

The commissioners have agreed to build an $8.2 million jail with 110 beds, Wagoner said.

Wagoner said he has been frustrated by the delays in building the jail, but that he would obey the injunction about the project.

"I plan on following the wishes of the Superior Court judge," Wagoner said.
