A Kernersville man led police on a traffic chase through Forsyth County and into the Winston-Salem city limits Friday night, deputies said, reaching speeds of over 100 mph and side-swiping a deputy's cruiser before he stopped.
A sheriff's deputy tried to stop William Moore McLaurin III, 42, about 7:45 p.m. Friday for driving without headlights, according to court records.
But McLaurin took off when the deputy flashed his lights.
The chase started on Reidsville Road near Angel Drive, said Maj. Brad Stanley of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. McLaurin led deputies through the county and into the city, finally stopping on Second Street at Laura Wall Boulevard.
The chase lasted about 20 minutes, court records show. No one was injured in the incident.
McLaurin was charged with reckless driving to endanger, failing to burn headlamps, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, fleeing to elude arrest, driving with a revoked license and driving while impaired. He was being held last night at the Forsyth County jail with bond set at $150,000.
