Mayor Draughn defeats Earnest in a close race

Incumbent Mayor Ricky Draughn narrowly defeated challenger Kennett Earnest Tuesday to win re-election. Draughn had 132 votes, and Earnest had 128 votes in the nonpartisan election , according to complete but unofficial results.

Draughn will serve a four-year term.

J. Wayne Atkins and John D. Lawson were elected to two seats on the town's board of commissioners. Atkins led the six-candidate field with 140 votes, and Lawson had 109.

Ron Atkins was third with 97 votes, and Kermit C. Draughn was fourth with 79 votes.

T. Jonathan Snow finished fifth with 48 votes, and Ted Ring was sixth with 28 votes.

Wayne Atkins and Lawson will serve four-year terms.
