Skinner's status "questionable" for Wake's game next week against Georgia Tech

Quarterback Riley Skinner of Wake Forest is questionable for Saturday's game against Georgia Tech following his concussion in the fourth quarter of the Deacons' 28-27 loss to Miami.

A computerized tomography (CT) scan performed on Skinner after the game revealed a mild concussion, according to head football trainer Don Steelman. The availability of Skinner, a four-year starter who holds many of Wake Forest's career passing records, will depend on how he progresses during the week.

Steelman said that Skinner will be cleared by a physician before he returns.

Skinner never lost consciousness, but was unable to play the final 6:22 after the impact of a tackle cracked his face mask and knocked his helmet off his head. The concussion was not considered as severe as the one suffered by Tim Tebow of Florida against Kentucky on Sept. 26.

Tebow was able to take advantage of an off-week to return by the next game against LSU on Oct. 10.

Coach Jim Grobe said after the game that Skinner won't return until he has healed.

"Concussions are funny," Grobe said. "You just really don't know. You have to be really, really cautious. We found out now after experience through the years.

"In the old days when you'd get knocked out they'd throw you right back in the mix and we found out that's not a good thing. You can start having a series of those over and over.

"We'll do what's best for Riley Skinner, not what's best for the football team."
