Rembielak out as baseball coach at Wake Forest

Wake Forest will not renew the contact of baseball coach Rick Rembielak when it expires June 30, Athletics Director Ron Wellman announced yesterday.
"This was a very difficult decision," Wellman in a statement. "Rick is a man of high integrity who has made many positive contributions to Wake Forest University and the Winston-Salem community. However, our baseball program is not moving in the right direction competitively and this change was necessary to get back on course.
"We appreciate everything that Rick has done for the Wake Forest baseball program. He has led the program in a professional manner for the last five years. We wish him the very best."
In five seasons as the Deacons coach, Rembielak had a 142-142 record, including 22-30 overall and 6-24 in the ACC this season. He has a career mark of 515-393-1 in 16 seasons as the coach at Wake Forest and Kent State.
Rembielak inherited a team that went 17-33 in 2004 and tied for eighth in the ACC. He led his first team to a 28-30 record, including 12-18 in the ACC. The Deacons were 33-22 (16-13 ACC) in 2006, 34-29 (14-16) in 2007and 25-31 (13-16) in 2008. They made the NCAA Tournament in '07 after a strong showing at the ACC Tournament, advancing from the No. 8 seed to a runner-up finish.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Rembielak was a three-year letterman at shortstop for Miami (Ohio) from 1979 to 1981. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1981 and played in the Baltimore, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers organizations. He rreceived a master's degree from Kent State in 1992 and is a member of the Kent State Hall of Fame and the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame.
